Abstract: The traditional lecture remains the most common method of teaching, despite growing criticism of its efficiency. This paper responds to the challenge of meeting the needs and access requirements of students with disabilities by facilitating further adaptations in the learning environment. The aim of this work is to improve the accessibility and flexibility of the traditional lecture, utilising Speech Recognition technology, with minimal investment in time and effort by academic staff. It is based on the premise that lecture transcriptions can act as an alternative to traditional note taking and enable students to concentrate on learning. The paper introduces a tool, which facilitates the evaluation of the validity of transcription files, produced by Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) software, in real lecture situations. The tool aims to provide an easy way for academics to create lecture transcriptions that can be provided to students in a meaningful, accessible and usable way.
