Abstract: A practice focused paper examining the use of VOIP technology in residential and online classes. The authors were looking for ways to use readily available technology to make online education more engaging. The paper discusses recent findings regarding hybrid classes and the use of synchronous and asynchronous discussions to increase student engagement. This is a practical guide to using readily available VOIP technology to enhance learning. Multiple methods are examined including the use of Skype™, Wimba™ and a combination of the two.
