Abstract: This paper reports the results of a line of research carried out over a period of more than five years examining students’ perceived learning in various learning venues. This particular study, however, focused on the impact of perceived course rigor and workload relative to perceived learning among students in three classroom types: face-to-face, televised, and online classes. The findings reveal that workload, but not academic rigor expressed by the actions of the instructor, had a significant impact on students’ sense of learning in all three environments.
