Abstract: New literacies are sets of knowledge and skills pre-service and in-service teachers need in order to prepare their K-12 students to succeed in remaining years of the 21st century. This symposium will provide a comprehensive overview of the new literacies theoretical framework and practices in the classrooms. Three sections will be presented: (1) definition of new literacies and their alignment with technology standards, (2) teacher education online web-based curriculum for acquiring new literacies, and (3) information and communication technologies (ICTs) used to cultivate K-12 students’ new literacies.
