Abstract: We have been working on an Internet-based Japanese language test. Via Internet, this test evaluates the students’ proficiency in Japanese language as a foreign language. The test conducting system based on the item response theory (IRT), delivers suitable items for each test taker according to his/her abilities. This type of test is called the Computerized Adaptive Test (CAT). In this report, we will discuss the technical problems that we faced during the test development and propose solutions for these problems.
