A summary of investigation into developing games for learning using different techniques
Abstract: A series of implementation of a design for a game-based virtual learning environment is completed. These have been tested using groups of students learning various engineering subjects. These experiments were designed to see if with an environment that has been altered with various methodologies to include learning content into a computer game. The amount of game elements and a richness of the environment has also been varied to investigate the impacts this has on levels of the desired engagement, resulting in some elements of reuse and socialisation. Thereby helping to establish what level of embedding of that material is necessary within a game, and when incorporating learning content into a game, or designing a game for learning purpose, what works best and what is the threshold on game-play? Basically what works and what does not work?
