Abstract: Research in astronomy education focuses on the innovation of teaching methods and technological applications, to improve the effectiveness of teaching this unique subject, which comprises a wider range of features compared to other subjects. To extend the notion of applying innovative technology, this study presents a developed mobile digital armillary sphere (MDAS). With the concept and technique of augmented reality (AR), along with a G-sensor and electronic compass on a mobile device, an entire virtual sky environment can be created. The experiment conducted by the study used two fifth grade classes as the experimental subject after separating them into one experimental group and one control group. According to the findings, using the MDAS can improve the weaknesses in teaching astronomy by allowing students to engage in a more accurate visual experience, with movements that usually only occur in authentic environments.
