Abstract: Educational Apps represent an extraordinary and largely untapped array of potential tools for use by educators and students in the multifaceted contexts of face-to-face, hybrid, and distance education. However, development companies with vast experience in mobile design, but little experience in K-12 instruction, are responsible for the design of most iPhone and iPad educational Apps. To this extent, the Learning Technologies program at the University of Minnesota has pioneered a graduate-level series of courses for K-12 educators to design and develop iPhone and iPad Apps, specifically in the context of mobile education.
