Using Tools to Enhance Achievement in Online Study
Abstract: Research was conducted to investigate how students use tools and strategies to self regulate their learning in an online learning environment. Results suggest students who are selective in the strategies they employ and who choose to employ various learning tools such as annotation (tools), highlighters and note editors are more successful in completing a post-study test. When we select and implement a LMS we often forgo pedagogical implications for technical or administrative options, which may have a detrimental effect on student achievement. Understanding how these various tools can be beneficial to learners may assist educators and instructional designers in creating online learning environments where students have a better chance of succeeding.
