Revitalizing Curriculum around Enhanced Assessment
Abstract: The Revitalizing Curriculum around Enhanced Assessment best practices session affords multiple perspectives and lessons learned by the individual professors and instructional designers of a private university in the midst of massive change. Two schools of Brandman University (Education and Arts & Sciences) took parallel, yet separate, paths toward reconstructing the entire catalog from 9 week, traditional face-to-face classes to an 8 week, blended/hybrid format with an online component embedded into the curricular structure. Included in this massive undertaking was the need to realign all programs to ensure clarity for assessing Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) across a distributed system. Since the two schools took different routes to achieve the same desired outcome, hindsight has provided many lessons that offer best practices for those seeking to standardize assessment without compromising the differing needs of schools serving the different needs of their programs, faculty, and learners.
