Abstract: This paper uses a participatory action research methodology and literature review exploring collaborative learning in online environments. In particular, the authors look at positive interdependence as best-case cooperative learning framework and examine ways to construct it in formal blended and online learning courses they teach. The historical and theoretical foundations of education are explored as a further explanation for judging possible “good” learning development. Differences between online and face-to-face [F2F] learning affordances are discussed as well as implicating holes in the current research.
