Abstract: This paper presents the challenges during the first year of an iPad program at the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine. The iPad program is a part of the iMedEd Initiative to transform the traditional medical school curriculum into a digital one. As the first medical school to adopt the iPad platform, there were many lessons learned. The areas of preparing an iPad orientation for students, eTextbooks, apps, and curriculum changes are presented.
