Abstract: This paper argues that argument mapping software can be used to enhance the effectiveness of leadership in organizations. The software can be used in leadership development programs to improve the informal reasoning skills of potential leaders. Informal reasoning skills can enhance a leader’s ability to use rational persuasion, which is the most effective ‘core tactic’ for leadership in organizations. The software can also be used in day-to-day leadership practice to develop sound arguments which are the basis for rational persuasion and to engage collaboratively in consultation, which is another core tactic for leadership in organizations.
