Abstract: The presentation describes a pilot project achieved in a course offered to pre-service language teachers. The project aimed at using the learning management-system called Moodle as well as the open source e-portfolio system Mahara to support and promote a hybrid approach to introduce new material to students as well as to new forms of online assessment. The presentation first discusses how the use of Moodle was used to provide a form of hybrid teaching and learning practice and its access to multimedia content. Secondly, the presentation demonstrates how the use of Mahara supported the concept of digital documentation by which students engaged in a process of documenting (pictures, videos, audio recording) their own learning. Finally, the presentation provides examples of ‘digital exposition’ as a form of digital assessment.
