Abstract: Meaningful assessment should inform ongoing content development and continuous instructional design improvement. After the initial creation of a design philosophy based upon best engagement/learning principles for adult learners (iDEAL), Brandman University's Center for Instructional Innovation recognized a need to combine the essential engagement/experiential components of iDEAL with the Quality Matters criteria for online structure/functional design. The resulting tool has proven essential for both Instructional Designers and faculty as it offers both quantitative, unbiased data that highlights specific areas within a course that need immediate attention while also pointing out additional components that would benefit from refreshing.
