Abstract: As eLearning users and methods mature, the boundaries of traditional approaches to learning are pushed beyond facilitated to more self-directed, social media, and mobile. As a result, systems and platforms must keep pace and anticipate the future direction for innovation. This paper provides an overview of blended learning integrated with the use of open source system architectures to develop a fully collaborative and integrated learning community platform that supports next generation learning. More specifically, through the use of a case study, the authors describe the challenges and lessoned learned in the development, enhancement, promotion and reuse of a Health Learning Community and Collaboration Portal.
