Collaboration Strategies for Creating a Successful Multidepartment Online Cohort Graduate Program
Abstract: With the increasing number of online courses and programs being created by brick and mortar colleges and universities, it imperative that best practices for program development and instruction be followed. There is also a trend whereby multiple departments are partnering to create online degrees. Therefore, the purpose of this program is to identify best practices when creating a multidepartment online cohort graduate program. The United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) and the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS) best practices guidelines can be used as a guide. Since best practices can be programs specific, strategies for resolving issues will be identified for individual departments, communication between departments, and understanding student needs when developing program courses and class assignments. Lastly, future plans and lessons learned will be mentioned, such as shared responsibility, flexibility, and having professional organization partnerships.
