Factor Analysis of problems in learning activities On fundamental computer programming

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to analyzed factors of problems in learning activities on fundamental computer programming with undergraduate students. Purposive sampling method was used to collect the 204 undergraduate students who enrolled in fundamental computer programming course. The research instrument was the questionnaires which into problems in learning activities on fundamental computer programming. Analytical statistics used in this study was descriptive statistics and exploratory factor analysis with principle component and varimax rotation. The research results show that as following: the findings two factors of the problems in learning activities on fundamental in computer programming namely: analysis and program design, and usage of programming languages factors. The analysis and program design factor consisted of 6 problems such as the students don't know how to design pseudo code on programming problems, they lack of skills or ability create algorithms ,and don’t know how to design on flowchart. The usage of programming languages factors consisted of 8 problems such as they don’t know what is the correct result when compiled program, don’t understand error messages on their program. Issues of interest in this paper, reflection the learner think about when learner study on fundamental computer programming course. This can be concluded that the teaching should consider both factors in design and development of computer programming skills to increase their learning performance.
