Abstract: Due to rapid ICT development, electronic waste (E-waste) poses increasing risks to the environment and public health. Currently, smartphones and tablet computers are omnipresent devices with very rapid development in technology and the features they offer. As usage of ICT devices is projected to become more widespread with the current and future generations, E-waste is bound to increase greatly in the future. End users play an important role in ensuring the proper treatment of their E-waste, and raising their awareness regarding this issue through education thus is of critical importance. As those responsible for the highest turnover of mobile devices are usually the key users of digital media applications and thus display high digital literacy, we propose that mobile learning tools in combination with social media are a particularly adequate approach for raising awareness of the end users about proper E-waste treatment.
