Abstract: This paper reviews the literature about online education, including a comparison with traditional face-to-face instruction. It does not cover the hardware requirements of online learning, and does not compare available course management systems. It does, however, investigate the quality of online education and perceptions about that quality, and recommends implementing specific interventions in order to improve student success and retention.
