The "Post-IT" Curatorial Challenge
Abstract: Within academia the libraries and learning centers are caretakers and stakeholders of an emerging textual universe. It is driven by the more general transition from industrial to knowledge based economies and is marked by new socio-economic conditions for the intelligentsia, the algorithmic approach to work and study and new types of social discourse. These developments require profound changes in the way we educate children, students and adults. Re-engineering, remediation and recombination of educational texts and contexts are of particular importance. The Internet cloud and mobile client systems constitute the medium for such changes. Libraries have experienced at close range the new technical developments in print and publishing. They are wholly or partly positioned orthogonally on the traditional and subject-based organization of the academic institution. This fact offers opportunities for libraries to be agents of change. They are uniquely position to take on such challenges.
