Abstract: The culture of the instructional designer and the instructor impact the organization, the content, and the activities in online courses. When students from diverse cultures enroll in the courses, there is the potential for a mismatch between their expectations and those of the instructor. These cultural differences have the potential to negatively impact students’ learning. When instructional designers and instructors recognize and develop an appreciation of cultural differences, they can create online courses that are representative of multiple cultures and accessible to all of their students.
