Share Paper: Leveraging a MOOC Platform to Accelerate College Readiness

Abstract: To accelerate student readiness, the university created a micro-course available to selected students who unsucessfully participated in their foundational course. By leveraging a MOOC platform (coursesites), students who were unable to successfully complete the first two weeks of course work were taught by a first term faculty member paired with a peer mentor. This 3-week skill refresher provides students with (a) feedback on writing, (b) an introduction to university support services, and (c) a preview of first term assignments with strategies for success in coursework.
