Abstract: This presentation chronicles the transition to Blackboard Learn for a professor teaching an online computer applications course. It provides actual examples of the functionality gained by migrating to Blackboard Learn: the open structure of presenting content and tools, increased multimedia support, increased flexibility in grading, additional communication tools, ability to send course emails to external email accounts, increased options for objects created, course management alerts. However, this session also discusses the presenter’s transition challenges: limited local support and training, differences in the structure of course materials, the leveraging of additional tools available, the complexity of object options, and the lack of portability to Blackboard Learn. Based upon the transition experience, the presenter provides four main migration guidelines.
