Abstract: This is a brief paper outlining the rationale for a study currently being conducted on the effectiveness of pedagogical learning agents in a computer-based self-management healthcare training program for older adult learners living with COPD. The primary focus of this paper is to present the rationale for choosing pedagogical agents and challenges that may be experienced with the targeted population. Computer agents have been used successfully in both educational and healthcare settings. This research is intended to extend previous research in the area of pedagogical learning agents, while focusing primarily on older adult learners.
