W3: Design Alchemy: Strategies to Transform Online Learning and Teaching Environments
    Rod Sims
The workshop will focus on the critical elements and relevance of Design Alchemy and its practical application to enhance online learning Given the issues that face contemporary higher education institutions, such as designers-by-assignment, accelerated courses, moocs and quality standards, the need for quality online teaching and learning experiences is more crucial than ever and the value of traditional “instructional design” must be called into question. In this half-day session, participants will be introduced to the four basic elements of the Design Alchemy approach, including examples of the ways in which the philosophy is being introduced, implemented and adopted at the University of Southern Queensland. This will be followed by a case-study where participants experience the transformative ‘alchemic’ process of turning online courses into teaching and learning “gold”. Participants will be provided with templates to utilise in their own workplace.
