Abstract: Though online instructors serve in roles similar to traditional classroom teachers, the major difference is the use of technology as a facilitation tool in online classrooms (Hunsaker & Hunsaker, 2008). Keengwe & Kidd (2012) described classroom a instructors’ roles s pedagogical, social, managerial, and technical. Unlike in some traditional classrooms, online instructors may fail to include activities that empower students to be part of the managerial role, such as assessments (DiPetro, Ferdig, Black, & Preston, 2008), and engagement in the peer review process. In the traditional classroom, instructors may use peer reviewing as an informal assessment more frequently than in online classrooms. The roles of the instructors are the same in both environments; however, the roles of students may not be the same (Jang, Reece, & Deci, 2010).
