Abstract: The best courses evolve over time, and it can take years for an instructor to build the necessary skills to teach online. The online experience for students can vary widely, and courses often under-deliver quality experience. A strategy was articulated and an online course improvement process was implemented at one Midwestern university to address these issues. The results indicated that significant improvements were made to online courses after completing the Course Improvement Process. The process was time-intensive and the faculty members benefited from the one-on-one support of a trained and experienced instructional designer.
