MOOCs and Open Education around the World: Recapping the Past Year, Mapping the Road Ahead
Abstract: This panel is a follow-up to the full day preconference symposium on MOOCs and Open Education around the World from E-learn 2013 attended by over 100 individuals. Since that time, more than a dozen of the participants have written articles for a special issue of the International Journal on E-Learning (IJEL) which will be published in early 2015. Topics include remedial education, instructor roles, completion rates, etc. In addition, a comprehensive book, coordinated by the 2013 preconference symposium coordinators, is also is also under development with 30 chapters on this same topic. Chapters include those from the UK, Canada, Kenya, South Africa, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands, the United States, the Philippines, and Germany. The panel presenters will recap key issues and challenges mentioned in the special issue and book. Audience members will then have ample time to ask pose questions and concerns to the panel members.
