Abstract: The main goal of this paper is to provide information for counselor educators and counselors-in-training on how to maximize instructional and supervisory experiences in online counseling courses such as counseling skills and techniques, practicum, and internship. Recent research on the perceptions and suggestions of counseling faculty, students, and practitioners with respect to the appropriate delivery of online instruction and supervision will be reviewed. Suggestions for optimizing online counseling instruction by incorporating learning styles and andragogy theories into course syllabi, lesson planning, online module delivery, assessment techniques, and assignment options will be discussed. Presenting students with information on how to capitalize on their learning-style preferences and strengths and providing faculty with professional development on learning-styles instruction is a prerequisite for successful delivery of online instruction and improved learning experiences.
