Share Paper: Using student videos as a self reflective tool for learning and engagement in online hybrid courses

Abstract: It is difficult to get students to engage in discussions in an online setting. This past year I had students submit weekly videos designed as self-reflective activities about their understanding or views of the subjects being covered. These videos were designed to 1) increase student’s abilities to create and communicate in various digital formats such as self-videos and screencasts; 2) increase students understanding of the material through deep reflection; and 3) increase the student overall level of engagement within the course.
