Abstract: Washoe County School District and the University of Nevada, Reno provide e-learning courses for educators working with second-language learners. Activities incorporate the theories of social and culture capital and 21st Century Learning. Without effective support, students may experience difficulties in an online learning environment. Online learning can be structured to help students gain social and culture capital which promotes a successful online experience. Participants will engage in a variety of activities designed to promote a deeper understanding of Personal Learning Networks (PLNs) and Personal Learning Environments (PLEs); explore tools such as Padlet, TodaysMeet, and Google+; and increase their knowledge of social and culture capital theories and applications. Please bring a mobile device such as a laptop or tablet.
