Abstract: This paper reports a comparative study of online vs. onsite experiments. Online education becomes popular in many disciplines, however, online engineering education falls behind, mainly due to the obstacle of experiments. Recently, online experiments, which enable students to conduct experiment using internet, have been introduced. However, there are few research on comparative study of online and onsite experiments. In this paper, a Smart Vibration Platform (SVP) experiment in both online and onsite formats were used by senior mechanical engineering students in a lab course.
