Abstract: This paper is a work-in-progress report of a study on the effectiveness of a vignette-oriented Internet safety cartoon series with 9- and 10-year old children and teachers in a public charter school in Hawai‘i. The intent of the series is to develop a child’s sense of ethics when interacting online and to build and cultivate empathy, the awareness of the feelings and emotions of others. Using a mixed-methods design, data will be collected from participants (children, their parents, and their teachers) in a Fall 2015 pilot study. The modules will be refined and tried in another iteration in additional schools in Spring 2016.
