Abstract: Asynchronous discussions are an integral and required component of many online courses, yet standards for the assessment of student participation in these discussions are widely varied. Participants in this session will gain a better understanding of best practices in the assessment of asynchronous online discussion forums. The presentation will address ways to maintain high standards of validity and reliability in discussion forum assessment. In particular, the session will analyze the development and implementation of comprehensive rubrics for the assessment of discussion forums.
