Abstract: Online graduate programs in counseling are becoming more prevalent Counseling is a discipline that attracts students who value interpersonal relationships An important issue to address when developing an online counseling course is the need to engage students on a personal level, providing opportunities for them to collaborate with each other and the instructor, and thus feel more engaged in the learning environment This presentation will present one instructor's attempt to meet the needs of counseling students through the dynamic system of online course delivery Practical examples will be discussed to help instructors assess their own level of collaboration in online courses, and to suggest ways to further encourage and reward student collaboration Specific practices, policies and assignments will be shared and discussed This session will be useful to current online instructors and educators who are considering teaching online
