Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the use of social media in educational and in leadership practices The researchers examined qualitative data from a cross section of educators, both from K-12 and higher education Initial case study reports indicate a large number of educators are using social media tools to increase their social capital, promote their professional presence, and are primarily using social media tools like Twitter to engage in ongoing professional development What is evolving is a community of learning connected at times only by 144 characters
