Abstract: This brief paper looks at recent trends in the HCI literature on interfaces and next generation technologies, including aspects of HCI and ethics in Machine Learning, Big Data, and Internet of Things, as powerful but potentially invasive technologies in a new information age. Important issues and challenges are considered as part of the discussion around the role of HCI in building ethical applications of ML and AI, as well as the issues around complex systems that use sensor technologies in managing the health and well-being of an aging population.
