Instructor Perceptions of Using Mobile Phones in Teaching and Learning: The Case of a Group of Instructors in the UAE
Abstract: This paper explores instructors’ perceptions and experience of using mobile phones in teaching and learning. It conducted in-depth interviews with a small group of instructors who were teaching in the United Arab Emirates. Main findings suggest that none of the instructors had formally integrated the mobile phone into their teaching though they were aware of the educational opportunities offered by this tool. Most of the instructors lacked skills and knowledge on how to integrate the mobile phone into teaching. The paper ends with a discussion of several issues that need to be addressed through professional development to support instructors to implement mobile phones successfully into their teaching.
