Abstract: In this 21st Century, it is likely to assume that new teachers are joining the teaching professional with sufficient skills on how to teach with Information Communication Technologies (ICTs). Unfortunately, in most cases the assumption is not always true. Many South African teacher education students have not domesticated the new technologies in their teaching and learning, hence they do not feel ready to teach with the digital tools when they join the teaching professional. This qualitative study, therefore, explores the barriers faced by the prospective teachers’ domestication of the ICTs for their own learning as well as their teaching. Results of the study shows that lack of domestication of the ICTs by the teacher education students is influenced by instructions and modelling they get from the teacher education.
