Abstract: Last November, the argument about the next revision of the National Course of Studies started in Japan. In this paper, I analyze the various proposals and arguments for revising the informatics curriculum, focusing especially on Information Studies at the upper secondary school level. In this discussion, I refer to Matsuda’s (2015) model to cultivate problem-solving competency and Wiggins and McTighe’s (2005) curriculum design theory. Based on the former, differences among various proposals are discussed, and appropriate objectives of Information Studies are clarified. In addition, based on both, important concepts (big ideas) and appropriate topics (essential questions) in Information Studies are discussed.
