Studies have shown that the use of rubrics increases student learning and student achievement. This presentation demonstrates how rubrics, generated for individual student evaluation in the everyday assessment of learning, can also be used for understanding class performance and inform teaching strategies. Technology is used in the creation and grading of rubrics, which allows them to be easily coded and collected for immediate computer generated data visualization and statistical analysis. This type of assessment can be used across multiple classes by various faculty to provide feedback for formative teaching evaluation, continuous improvement, course development, program self-study and accreditation processes.
