Description and Objectives:

This tutorial should prove a worthwhile experience for teacher educators trying to address the technology issue. The tutorial will guide participants through a series of time-tested methods for modeling technology integration in pre-service teacher education courses. Each participant will receive a disk or CD containing various components of the tutorial.

The first part of the tutorial will provide participants with a thorough understanding of how the presenters model technology integration in their pre service teacher education courses. This part of the session will illustrate how various activities within the approach correlate both the NETS for Teachers and Students.

The next segment of the tutorial will focus on describing how existing assignments have been reconfigured to design new learning opportunities that allow students to practice and demonstrate competence with both sets of standards. Student work samples will be used to clarify how the assignments address the standards and accompanying performance indicators.

The final segment of the tutorial will be interactive. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and discuss how they can systematically integrate similar approaches into their teacher education courses. Issues of time commitment, equipment needs, funding, support, and faculty training will be included in this discussion. Participants will receive a set of guidelines to facilitate their efforts in this area. The presenters will also be available for individual consultation.

Audience:

The activities and ideas presented in this tutorial will be of interest to most teacher educators. Some experience with computers is suggested, but not mandatory for participating in the session.
