Abstract: This paper reports on one dimension of the Appalachian Rural Teacher Technology Alliance (ARTTA), which was formed in 2000 to engage four teacher education programs and three public school partnerships in the integration of technology into pre-service programs and their accompanying field experiences. ARTTA funding comes from the U.S. Department of Education through a PT3 grant. As part of a small liberal arts institution, Warren Wilson College’s Teacher Education Program provided physical resources and curricular strengths and benefited from the technological expertise in the larger institutions. This paper focuses on the collaboration among higher education institutions and with public school personnel. Here we emphasize lessons learned about the opportunities and challenges that come from insisting that curricular themes determine appropriate technological tools and integration.
