Educational Technology and Teacher Education: Testing the effectiveness of a case-based multimedia learning environment
Abstract: This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a case-based online learning environment that targets undergraduate students’ educational technology competencies. Furthermore, it is the purpose of this study to explore and identify crucial factors that determine the effectiveness of multimedia learning environments, as e.g. the ability to self-regulated learning. For this purpose, undergraduate students (n=107) were recruited and assigned to intervention and control groups. The specific aims of this research are as follows: 1.) To evaluate the effectiveness of a case-based learning environment regarding the acquaintance of educational technology competencies among undergraduate students 2.) To determine crucial variables for the learning outcomes with a case-based learning environment, like e.g. the ability to self-regulated learning. Principles for the design of online modules for teacher education fostering educational technology competencies will be discussed.
