Abstract: The preparation of preservice teachers to integrate technology in their teaching should be designed to enable these new teachers to experience success during their first year in the classroom. A realistic assessment of the technology contexts in which this first year teaching takes place can inform the technology preparation given the teachers. A survey of students regarding the technology available in their internship year placement sites revealed wide variability in technology resources. The two most widespread configurations for these interns were one computer with Internet access or, in a much smaller percentage of classrooms, one computer with Internet access plus a projector. Programs to prepare teachers to integrate technology in their teaching should give considerable priority to ways teachers could make optimal use of these two configurations.
