Promoting Visual Literacy: Teaching Visual Design Principles to Pre-service Teachers
Abstract: The purpose of the study is to investigate how teaching visual design principles to pre-service teachers in educational technology classes influences their perception and analysis of visual materials. In addition, the relationship between pre-service teachers' visual intelligence and their perception and analysis of visual materials will be investigated in this study. Eighty-six pre-service teachers participated in the three-phased study including pretest, treatment, and posttest. Only fifty-nine participants completed the full three phases. Data collection was finished and data analysis will begin momentarily. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, repeated-measures analysis of variance, and bivariate regression will be used to analyze the data. The results of the study will provide suggestions on whether teaching visual design principles in educational technology classes will promote pre-service teachers' visual literacy.
