A Modular Open Architecture to Increase Collaboration in Learning Management Systems
Abstract: One of the goals of Learning Management Systems (LMS) is motivate collaboration among students, mainly to enrich theirs learning experience. In this article we sense beforehand the results of a study on the mechanics of collaboration in a LMS for discover usability problems within workspaces shared by distance learners. Nevertheless that the used methodology serves preferably to be applied in groupware systems, it is applied for the evaluation of collaborative uses in LMS. Main results of the evaluation indicate that an important factor for the strengthening of the collaboration mechanisms in LMS, is to be able to rely on a modular and open architecture that allows extensibility. We implement an extension to increase the collaboration into LMS.
