Understanding and Promoting Best Practices in Technology Implementation in Higher Education Classrooms
Abstract: Six faculty members at James Madison University conducted an investigation of the instructional practices, diffusion, and professional development initiatives born of a university’s significant investment in instructional technologies to supplement face-to-face learning across campus. Using Chickering and Gamson’s (1987) Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education as a framework, important pedagogical practices and themes emerged as instructional technologies were examined from the perspectives of implementation and integration, assessment, frequency of use, and support for ongoing professional development.
