Abstract: Traditionally, the purpose of schooling has been to promote and extend a society’s culture and values and prepare students to become contributing members of the economic system that supports that society. This paper discusses the current research that suggests a widening gap between the preparation schools are providing students and the global workplace reality. It further examines the personal and professional ways in which people interact with technologies, the different “digital generations” use of technology, and the implications of the variant generational attitudes toward and use of technology for professional development, professional support of the current and future workforce.
